Birdcraft Sanctuary in Fairfield, Connecticut, was established in 1914 by Mabel Osgood Wright and is notable for its history. This sanctuary serves as one of the first private songbird refuges in the United States. The Connecticut Audubon Society, which Wright helped to found in 1898, continues to operate today. Although Interstate 95 construction in 1957 reduced its size, the sanctuary remains a vital bird habitat.
