The next thing Adidas wants to make bespoke is the foam itself

Running-shoe foam has always come out of a mould, which means it behaves the same for everyone in a size. At its APEX Lab in Herzogenaurach, Adidas showed an early prototype of printed foam, with structures that can be shaped around a single athlete’s data. The work builds on years of printed resin midsoles, and could bring bespoke cushioning to foam for the first time.
