YouTube changes what counts as a view from August 24; creators may suddenly see bigger numbers

From August 24, YouTube counts a view the moment a video starts playing, matching the standard already used for Shorts, TikTok and Instagram. The old 30 second threshold survives as “Engaged views” inside Analytics Advanced Mode. Public counts will climb faster, but earnings and YouTube Partner Program eligibility stay unchanged, arriving just a week after YouTube raised monetisation thresholds for new creators.
