In 1922, Winston Churchill acquired Chartwell, transforming it into his family residence for many years. Significant renovations were carried out by architect Philip Tilden from 1922 to 1924. Financial challenges later jeopardized Churchill’s ownership, leading friends and supporters to buy Chartwell in 1946 to preserve its legacy. Today, it is maintained as a National Trust property welcoming visitors.
