Vashishtha Narayan Singh rose from a poor family in Bihar’s Bhojpur district to become a celebrated mathematician who earned a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. His exceptional talent took him from Netarhat and Patna to academic positions in the US and India. However, his later life was marked by schizophrenia, personal hardship and years of declining health. Singh died in 2019, leaving behind a complex legacy of remarkable intellectual achievement and adversity.
