US corporate profit margins reached a record 19.4% in the second quarter, up from 18.2%, as profits jumped nearly 10%. Strong consumer spending and companies passing higher prices on to customers supported earnings. Business investment also remained robust, with nonresidential fixed investment rising at an annualized 8.5% pace.
