This decision came after BJP MLA Kumar Ailani claimed credit for the establishment of a new immersion ghat. The corporation expressed concerns about pollution affecting the Ulhas river and local drinking water sources. Following complaints from residents, Mayor Ashwini Nikam instructed the halt, advising devotees to utilize designated artificial immersion ponds instead.
