Research on Faidherbia albida trees in Senegal shows that their roots significantly enhance water infiltration into deeper soil layers. Through hydrological modeling, scientists discovered that the presence of these roots changes how water behaves in the soil, facilitating its movement downwards. This important process contributes to sustained groundwater recharge, accounting for twenty-six percent of the total precipitation received in the region.
