The Bureau of Indian Standards has raised mandatory jewellery hallmarking charges from ₹45 to ₹75 per article, prompting the Gem & Jewellery Council to seek a review. GJC said the flat fee could disproportionately raise compliance costs for lightweight, lower-value jewellery and urged stronger enforcement against unauthorised hallmarking operations.

US stocks opened lower on Wednesday after hotter-than-expected inflation data strengthened expectations of another Fed rate hike this year. The Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq fell at the open as investors awaited Nvidia’s earnings, closely watched for fresh clues on AI demand and the broader tech rally.

Paytm opened at ₹1,580.20 and initially traded around 1.2 per cent higher before reversing gains. The stock later slipped as much as 1.4 per cent during the session to an intraday low of ₹1,557.
