The National Medical Commission has revised the MBBS seat matrix for 2026-27, adding 13,636 seats across India. The total approved MBBS intake now stands at 1,40,664 seats across 839 medical colleges, excluding INIs. Government colleges account for 64,121 seats and private colleges for 76,543. Karnataka recorded the highest increase with 1,650 seats, followed by Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Telangana. The revised figures will guide NEET UG 2026 counselling.
