Professor Annapurni Subramaniam, Director of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, has become the first Indian woman to receive the COSPAR Vikram Sarabhai Medal. Awarded at the 46th COSPAR Scientific Assembly in Florence, the honour recognises her contributions to space research, including her work on AstroSat’s UVIT. A leading astrophysicist, she has also advanced ultraviolet space-observation projects and became IIA’s first woman director in 2019, marking another landmark in her distinguished career.
