The introduction of chukars to North America took place in 1893, but it was not until California’s 1930s release program that they truly flourished. These birds found their ideal habitat in the rocky, arid mountains, allowing for successful population growth from the Modoc Plateau down through desert ranges. Their spread was largely dependent on suitable terrain that facilitated their establishment across interconnected landscapes.
