The Giant African Snail was introduced to India around 180 years ago by William Benson, a British naturalist who brought two snails to Kolkata in 1847. Since then, these snails have proliferated throughout much of the subcontinent. Their ability to reproduce rapidly, especially during the monsoon, creates vast populations that threaten many native plants and crops across the region.
