In 2023, a worker at Portland Rescue Mission discovered a pair of metallic-gold Air Jordan 3 sneakers buried among donated clothing. The shoes turned out to be an exceptionally rare custom pair made for Spike Lee and his inner circle, with only about four or five pairs believed to have been produced. After authentication, the sneakers were offered at Sotheby’s and sold for $50,800 in December 2023, with the proceeds benefiting the Portland Rescue Mission.
