In July 2020, ExxonMobil transformed its Lena platform into a deepwater artificial reef, marking a significant shift in marine conservation. Originally established in 1983 as the Gulf’s pioneering cable-stabilized production platform, it served for over thirty-five years before decommissioning. Thanks to the Rigs-to-Reefs Program, this initiative not only preserves vital marine habitats but also sets the stage for Louisiana to take over the area post-clearance.
