In the Netherlands, researchers have implemented a Plastic Road bike path utilizing recycled plastic. The design includes hollow panels that manage stormwater during heavy rainfall. Testing in Zwolle and Giethoorn showed significant usage, registering over one million bicycle crossings. The project aims to provide data on the performance of recycled materials in infrastructure. Results from the trial indicated lower carbon emissions compared to traditional bicycle lanes.
