Founded in 2011 at the University of Maryland, the Food Recovery Network aimed to tackle food waste by redirecting excess food to those in need. By 2017, its efforts had reached over 220 campuses across 44 states, mobilizing student volunteers to recover and distribute more than two million pounds of food to local nonprofits, effectively combating hunger in communities nationwide.
