A 2006 email thread surfaced by Internal Tech Emails shows Google senior VP Alan Eustace asking Steve Jobs for permission before hiring former Apple executive Jean-Marie Hullot in Paris. Jobs asked what Hullot would build, warning Google would have a problem if it involved cell phone handsets. Weeks later he objected outright, and Google scrapped the Paris engineering centre entirely. Tim Sweeney called it blatantly illegal.
