In 1963, an IBM 1620 arrived at IIT Kanpur, marking an important early milestone in the development of Computer Science education in India. The machine enabled programming courses, with Prof. V. Rajaraman teaching one of the institute’s first programming courses in 1964. IIT Kanpur later launched a full-fledged BTech programme in Computer Science in 1978, attracting top JEE ranks. The institute’s pioneering efforts helped lay foundations for India’s future technology and computing ecosystem.
