Bulls Island has a rich history, changing hands 36 times since 1696. In 1925, banker Gayer Dominick acquired the island, later constructing a mansion and enhancing the waterfowl impoundments for hunting. By 1936, he gifted the island to the federal government, ensuring its preservation as part of the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge, now home to over 290 bird species and an impressive array of wildlife.
