In 1912, Ralph Edwards began establishing a remote homestead at Lonesome Lake in British Columbia. His family’s committed efforts were pivotal in saving the trumpeter swan from the brink of extinction, as they actively fed and nurtured the birds. Following Edwards’ death, the land was acquired by the BC Parks Foundation for conservation, and it now forms a vital part of Tweedsmuir Provincial Park’s protected environment.
