The European Commission has designated ChatGPT as a Very Large Online Search Engine under the Digital Services Act, the first time an AI chatbot has faced the EU’s strictest online safety rules. Reddit and Roblox were designated Very Large Online Platforms. All three have four months, until January 2027, to run risk assessments, or face fines of up to six per cent of global turnover.
