Chicago demolished LeClaire Courts in 2011 and left much of its 32-acre site vacant; 15 years later, a $127 million first phase is set to bring 183 homes as part of a plan for up to 700 units

The Chicago city council has recently granted approval for redevelopment plans at the LeClaire Courts site. The initial phase will feature two six-story buildings containing 183 apartments and a childcare facility, with approximately 90 percent of the units designated for low-income households. Set to begin construction in late 2026, this project aims to breathe new life into the area, fostering community and connectivity where it has long been absent.
