California backs $18m tribal bid to buy 357 coastal acres for restoration

California has approved $5 million towards the purchase of 357 coastal acres in Cayucos that once housed the largest abalone farm in the US. The yak titʸu titʸu yak tiłhini Northern Chumash Tribe is raising $18 million to buy the property, restore native habitats, revive aquaculture and support research into endangered white and black abalone.
