Moutohora Island, once degraded by introduced animals, has undergone remarkable ecological recovery. Pest eradication efforts, completed by 1987, allowed native vegetation to flourish again. Over 11,000 plants from 45 species were planted, aiding forest regeneration. This restoration enabled the reintroduction of threatened species like the saddleback bird. The island now thrives as a protected wildlife management reserve.
