An independent candidate for the Rejinagar assembly bypoll in West Bengal was arrested in a five-year-old case linked to a clash during the 2021 state elections, a day after Congress’ Nandigram nominee was held in an old land-acquisition agitation case. The October 6 bypolls were necessitated after the two seats fell vacant following the 2026 assembly elections.
