Fishermen discovered a new dark-bodied catshark with pale white eyes off Kerala’s coast. Scientists identified this previously unknown predator living hundreds of meters below the surface. Researchers named the species Apristurus drona after studying four collected specimens. Another new deep-water dogfish shark, Squalus hima, was also described by the same team. These discoveries highlight the ongoing exploration of India’s deep-sea marine biodiversity.
