School turns waste, water and grass craft into award-winning lessons

Manjari V Mahajan, Principal of Government Senior Secondary School, Bhaleth, Himachal Pradesh, has been honoured with the National Teachers Award 2026 for her innovative approach to education. Under her leadership, students have learned through practical initiatives on waste management, composting, water conservation and biodiversity. The school has also revived the traditional Buggad Grass craft through workshops with local artisans. Its environmental efforts earned the school state recognition, including the Environment Leadership Award and Waste Warrior Award.
