RBI to resume urban cooperative banks’ licensing after 22-year pause, review rural bank rules

The Reserve Bank of India will resume urban cooperative bank licensing after a 22-year pause. A comprehensive review of credit monitoring for rural cooperative banks is also planned. The central bank proposed standardizing lending rate frameworks for greater transparency. These announcements followed the decision to keep the policy repo rate unchanged. India’s FY27 GDP growth forecast was raised to 6.7 percent.
