Research into Brazil’s centenarians is examining why some people live beyond 100 and even 110 despite not following strict longevity routines. Professor Mayana Zatz’s team has studied nearly 200 centenarians, including more than 20 supercentenarians. The research has identified patterns involving genetics, body size, physical activity, diet and social life. Researchers are also examining Brazil’s genetic diversity and whether combinations of protective genetic variants could contribute to exceptional longevity.
