Following an impressive $18.7 million restoration initiative, Queen Bess Island has seen a remarkable expansion of its nesting habitat. The project has successfully rebuilt the island, offering up to thirty-seven acres for nesting. As a result, eighteen bird species have returned to the area, including thousands of brown pelicans, rejuvenating the ecosystem that was significantly impacted by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
