Oregon officials treated Diamond Lake with rotenone in 2006 to remove invasive tui chub. This invasive fish had previously caused the trout fishery to collapse and disrupted the lake’s ecosystem. The extensive treatment successfully removed millions of invasive fish and allowed the ecosystem to recover. Agencies then restocked the lake with rainbow trout, rebuilding the famous fishing destination. This large-scale project demonstrated the cost and difficulty of invasive species control.
