In 2025, Los Angeles surveyed Encino Reservoir 8 times before covering 10 acres with floating solar: biologists documented 60 wildlife species

Before the floating solar initiative at Encino Reservoir, biologists cataloged sixty different wildlife species in the area. Special attention was paid to the federally protected Least Bell’s Vireo, which, unfortunately, was not found. This project is set to utilize existing water systems to generate renewable energy, with installation targeted for summer 2026 and project completion anticipated by summer 2027. Wildlife interactions with the new infrastructure will be closely monitored.
