This hidden brain protein may explain why we can’t resist high fat foods

Recent research highlights the role of OPA1, a brain protein, in regulating appetite and body weight in mice. After consuming high-fat diets, OPA1 levels significantly increased in male mice. Interestingly, female mice deficient in this protein exhibited a higher likelihood of indulging in calorie-dense foods. Furthermore, these females experienced diminished effects from weight-loss medications, indicating that obesity treatments may need to consider sex differences in future strategies.
