A 2013 study indicated that young children exhibit a remarkable ability to deny rule-breaking behavior. While most younger kids tended to admit their wrongdoings, older children increasingly chose to deny them. Surprisingly, even 2-year-olds began to display lying behavior, although they struggled with consistency in maintaining their falsehoods during follow-up inquiries. The study also found that better executive functioning skills correlated with a higher likelihood of denying misdeeds.
