The Centre has notified four ports: Deendayal (Kandla), Jawaharlal Nehru (Nhava Sheva), Paradip and Adani Group’s Mundra, as ‘mega ports’, introducing the nomenclature for the first time. The status, valid for five years, is based on cargo handling thresholds of 150 MMT annually for bulk ports or 7.5 million TEUs for container ports.
