In 1995, Preeti Aghalayam entered IIT Madras as a student; 28 years later, she became the first woman to lead an IITPreeti Aghalayam’s journey from an IIT Madras student to the first woman to lead an IIT is marked by an unusual full-circle moment. After graduating in Chemical Engineering in 1995, she pursued a PhD in the US and built an academic career spanning MIT, IIT Bombay and IIT Madras. In 2023, she was appointed Director in Charge of IIT Madras Zanzibar, leading the institute’s first international campus in Tanzania and its global expansion.
