Lewis Hamilton pledged £20 million to launch Mission 44 in 2021 after seeing how little racial diversity existed across Formula 1 and motorsport. Research through the Hamilton Commission identified barriers in schools, universities and recruitment. Mission 44 has since funded STEM teachers, engineering scholarships and motorsport programmes, while expanding its work internationally and reaching 550,000 young people in 2024/25.
