India has introduced new NHAI guidelines for access-controlled high-speed national highways, mandating no median openings or at-grade intersections to reduce crash risks and dangerous cross movements. The rules also require flush medians with wire ropes or crash barriers, advance exit signs at 5 km, 2 km, 1 km and 500 metres, and 60-metre or 70-metre right of way based on traffic projections.
