In 2013, Heather “Anish” Anderson attempted to cross the 2,660-mile Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada faster than anyone had done it in a self-supported style. Drawing on years of long-distance hiking experience, she covered an average of more than 44 miles a day through the Sierra Nevada, Cascade Range and other demanding terrain, while managing her own equipment and resupply. Anderson completed the journey in 60 days, 17 hours and 12 minutes, beating Scott Williamson’s previous self-supported record by almost four days and becoming the first woman to hold the overall record. Her achievement demonstrated the extraordinary pace, endurance and self-sufficiency required to complete one of America’s longest trails in less than two months.
